Soucy Techno rewarded for pioneering community engagement

Sherbrooke, June 28, 2016 - Soucy Techno has been rewarded for its exemplary commitment to LaRocque School in Sherbrooke. For the second year in a row, the Sherbrooke-based company has provided funds and human resources to support school projects aimed at promoting and maintaining healthy lifestyles.

This sponsorship — amounting to $ 20 000 per year in funds and involving the voluntary efforts of numerous employees — has helped the school to refurbish its sports facilities in order to meet a whole range of needs, whether for regular classes, greater support for children with moderate intellectual disabilities or hyperactivity disorders, or reception classes. Every student has been able to benefit from the enhanced facilities, which support psychomotor development, improve concentration in class and increase academic achievement.
The activities organized by Soucy Techno, in which the volunteers — all employees — took part, also promoted the values of perseverance, respect, mutual assistance, and security. Students were encouraged to discover and learn through activities such as going for bike rides, preparing healthy snacks, walking in the mountains and learning to swim.

The school’s governors, proud of the unprecedented support received from a private company, nominated Soucy Techno for the “Mobilize and Engage” award at the Gala de reconnaissance des saines habitudes de vie (Healthy Lifestyle Awards Gala). The Gala rewards community organizations, schools, early childhood centres, and businesses that stand out for their innovative work to promote healthy lifestyles.
The selection committee rewarded Soucy Techno for its considerable commitment in the most unexpected way, by placing it not merely as a finalist, but as the overall special prize winner.

The company was proud to receive the award, which it hopes will inspire other private companies to get involved with the most deprived schools in order to promote healthy lifestyle choices.
